First off I just want to emphasize who annoying this bug could be for people not intending on jumping down. So, around spawn you are capable to hit anyone, almost everywhere. Hi! I saw this too and i think the easiest way to fix this is to claim the whole spawn with warzone, and disable pvp with world guard like Jack says!

Fixed thanks for the bug report.
There is still the warzone but no one can kill you unless you go down. This will be completely fixed on offical release, due to new spawn. Thanks again.
